SAAB IS SAVED

Man I'm really glad that SAAB has been saved and didn't end up like Saturn and Pontiac. And I'm even more glad that it was purchased by a European company and not another Chinese giant. I wish Spyker the best of luck and I hope that they could capitalize on what GM has done with the brand and be able to move forward with it and learn from GM's past mistakes with it. Looking forward to seeing some good products from SAAB, products that are more true to their history and identity, products that are not so mainstream.

Hummer

An end of an era? Maybe, Its always sad to see a brand go down or as of late go to the Chinese. They have the buy power, but sadly they lack all vision. And I'm never in favor of selling technology , any technology let alone advanced manufacturing techniques to the Chinese, with all their shady business, and intellectual property rights issues and all that its never a good idea in my opinion. First it was MG/Rover which to my surprise are actually doing OK but only in the Chinese market. Then it was Volvo, and now Hummer. Not that I'm a big fan of Hummer but I appreciate what the brand stands for and what GM have done with it. All environmental bullshit aside Hummer is no worse than your Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition, so lets not just follow blindly. At least they were capable off-roaders with a distinctive brand identity , something you can't say for alot of cars out there. RIP Hummer its all gonna be down hill from here.

Sedan Sketch

This is a recent sketch and was one of my first attempts at this technique.

Motoczysz

One of the first things that I worked on after graduating into the real world of design that actually came to life.

Design Talk

Volkswagen hires some of the most talented designers in the industry. Their concepts are often intelligent, and their production cars tend to look good and age well. Personally I would like ot see more daring designs come out of this company. This is boring to say the least. This car looks like the next generation Jetta minus 2 doors and some concept bits to throw off the general public, I do not think that VW would produce a coupe version of their compact sedan while they have the Eos, 2 door GTI's and Sciroco's this thing would be idiotic to build. They wouldn't even be able to market it or price it right since most of their cars overlap in market and price already, this would be a stupid addition to an already crammed product line with many overlapping products.
Is this GMC Concept their answer to Scion's Xb and all the other boxy cars out there currently on the US market ? Looks good but how many more boxes do we need out there really. We have the Cube (which is pretty round now), Element, and Soul, and ofcourse the Xb that started it all. Enough already .......how about some creativity people.
The Next Aveo
This is such a bad ass little car in my opinion. If 80% carries through into production GM will have a winner on its hands.
When I first saw pictures of this car I thought WOW! This car looks good. What a great looking' car. Then I noticed that it had a front wheel drive proportion. I mean don't get me wrong it has a great proportion still for a front drive, up there with Audi as far as trimming the front overhangs, but it still labeled as a "concept" which means some things will change for production, and maybe that front over hang is gonna get a little longer and screw up the great looks of this car. And the other thing is its a Cadillac, I thought Cadillacs were supposed to be rear drive, with better balance to rival Mercedes and BMW and a nice dash to axle. I thought GM was reserving big front drives for Buicks???? Oh poor confused GM product planners, they still don't know what to do with what they got, or is it the management? well who ever it is I hope they get it right some how. I still think its a great looking car more befitting a Buick badge but hey what do I know. My only other reservation is that character line with an undercut going the length of the vehicle. Really? Cadillac too now? how many more companies are gonna this wanna be BMW character line before they think its too generic and an outdated design feature. This is a plead to ALLLLLLLLLL car designers out there please stop doing the diving undercut character line that goes from the front fender and fades into the rear quarter panel, seriously it getting ridiculous! oh and stop with the stupid chrome front fender vents pleeeeeeeease. I mean really the US spec. Ford Focus and Chevy Aveo have them .............please stop! Thanks

Detroit 2010

So i was busy the past couple of months and i didn't get to really do much on this blog other than set it up. Then the LA auto show came and went, and as expected it was pretty weak with the exception of a couple of concepts that were okay like the HONDA P-NUT and the VOLKSWAGEN UP something or other. Other than that there wasn't much else really besides some repeats from previous shows. One notable repeat from Frankfurt or Geneva I can't remember was the BMW EfficientDynamics Concept. What a great car to see in person, the attention to detail, and the craftsman ship on the model were pretty amazing. Proportionally the car was great too. Love it or hate it the car like the GINA before it has some great presence and pushes new boundaries for the company and frankly for the industry as a whole, hardly anybody else is doing true concept cars anymore. But all this a side the LA auto show pretty much sucked, and i was really looking forward to Detroit thinking that the big 3 had reserved all their money and resources to kick some ass at this year's North American auto show, but to every ones expectations and not to my surprise they didn't have much , it looked like another LA auto show with literally a couple of production ready concepts and some new model debuts, and that was it. It was really disappointing I was really looking forward to seeing some good stuff after almost 2 years have passed on an ailing American industry, and a struggling economy, I was hoping for more particularly from the "big" 3 ( they no longer are ). But I'll say this, GM and Ford's up and coming facelifted and redesigned vehicles are by far their best in decades and for that I'm greatful!
